The natural environment of Teshio town was created over hundreds of millions of years. It is based on the balance between the mountains and the currents of the Sea of Japan. The Teshio River, which connects these, plays an important role in creating the plains and coasts of Teshio. Since prehistoric times, it has brought immeasurable blessings to the inhabitants as a treasure trove of river food, transportation and important route of material distribution. It can be said that it is a great river that represents the nature of Teshio.
天塩川のめぐみ 母なる自然
天塩町の生活の舞台となっている自然環境は何億年もの長い年月をかけて創られたものである。それは山地と日本海の海流のバランスのうえに成り立っている。これらをつなぐ天塩川は、天塩の平野、海岸をつくるうえで重要な役割を果たし、先史時代以来、川の幸の宝庫として、交通、物資の要路としてこの地の住民にはかり知れない恵をもたらしている、天塩の自然を代表する大河といえる。
