Timber was assembled into raft and carried by utilizing flow of the Teshio River from mountain, and then transported to the mainland and Otaru by loading ships waiting off the coast of Teshio Port. From Otaru, many daily necessities were carried to Teshio Port through sea route and sent to various places inland through the Teshio River. Fishing industry for herring and salmon that approached shore was also thriving.
